Totana & Sierra
Espuna (The Real Spain):
Totana is a bustling market town, and very typically Spanish, with many tapas
bars & restaurants.
Historically, Totana is well known as a pottery town, and you’ll find
many pottery / ceramic shops and factories.
Every Wednesday there is a large market with everything from local fresh fruit & vegetables
to cheap clothes & shoes.
During the year, Totana holds many festivities (see
calendar of events).
 
The beautiful National Park of Sierra Espuna
rises above the town of Totana, and offers fantastic walks,
mountain bike rides and rock climbing. There are many bars & restaurants
located in the national park as well as BBQ areas.

Location:
Our Villa is located on the select Residential Espuna estate, approx 3km
from the centre of Totana. It is easily accessible from the airports of
Alicante (1hr) & Murcia (45mins), Almeria (1hr 30mins) which are served
by all the leading low cost airlines:
If you want to get around during your stay, then
a car is essential.
The villa is....
40 min's from the cultural city of Murcia
30 min's from the Mediterranean beaches of Puerto de Mazarron, a lively seaside
resort in summer with excellent and safe beaches for children (shallow water
in Playa Bahia).
50 min's from the Thermal Spas of Archena, Mula, or Fortuna.
Weather:
The region of Murcia enjoys a beautiful Mediterranean climate with long dry
summers and short mild winters, with an average year-round temperature of
19 centigrade. The region boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year and of
those, there are approximately 100 days a year when the temperature exceeds
30 centigrade and only about 6 days a year the temperature may fall below
0.
Where and
What to Eat:
We should start by saying that the variety offered by the restaurants in the
region is unbeatable. You’ll find a wide range of choice from the most
exquisite gourmet food to the most basic and traditional but still delicious
dishes. We shouldn’t forget to say that you’ll find a café,
a bar or a restaurant in nearly every corner in town. Never miss those by the
seashore, some of them actually on the sand, from where you can enjoy the sound
of the waves.
As Murcia is becoming more
and more popular, it is also adapting to all the different
demands so you’ll certainly find something to your taste.
There are many restaurants offering “menus of the day” (menu del
dia), 4 course meals (salad, starter, main course and dessert), including drinks,
bread and coffee for 8 euros.

to do and visit that makes Murcia Region so special?
When you may have had just enough of enjoying the views from your new home,
sitting in the sun or outdoors till late at night, swam in your own pool or
in another words, just got fulfilled with what the villa and garden have to
offer you, you may feel curious about what surrounds you, and you won’t
be disappointed.
Beaches:
As for a change of scenery, the coast is waiting for you only half an hour
away by car.
Close at hand, you’ll find some of the most beautiful bays and clean
sandy beaches you’ve ever seen. They are especially good for family
days out and also, definitely brilliant for the explorer.
From the fishing town of Aguilas to the white dunes of El Mojon, kilometre
after kilometre of beaches and deserted coves await for the bather, the sailor,
the diver or the fisherman. In addition, there are delightful picturesque
fishing villages whose people will make you feel very welcome.

Nature & Sports:
However, if what you fancy, and what you are looking for goes further into
nature and adventure, let’s take
ourselves into the very heart of the region, and the unspoiled mountain range
of Sierra Espuna.
This area appeals to absolutely everyone. Its unique views, the smell of
the pine trees, the peacefulness in the air and the beauty of the sound made
just by nature itself, will allow you to discover absolute relaxation.
On the other hand, the climbing walls of Leyva Valley, the fantastic cycle
and walking paths, steep roads with hairpin bends, horse riding courses,
paragliding facilities, together with the small and traditional life style
villages of Aledo, Zarzadilla or El Berro, and the numerous typical and good
value restaurants and cafes make of these mountains a perfect place for good
training and sport.

SPORTS & ACTIVITIES
The location of the villa makes it ideal for practicing various different sports
and activities;
CYCLING: The
area is ideal for cycling with both quiet flat roads and mountain
passes up to 1,200mt in the Sierra Espuna national park. With
the regions mild winters, the villa would be an ideal base
for training / preparation weeks.
Spanish cycling star Alejandro Valverde lives in the region and uses these
roads for his training, and you are likely to bump into him and the Murcia
training group during your rides.
During the year we shall be operating various
cycle training / preparation weeks, including Etape du Tour & cyclo
sportive preparation weeks.
The first week of March the Professional race
Tour of Murcia will be near by and always there is a mountain
stage through the Sierra Espuna.
The Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) will
be within cycling distance of the villa on the 13th 14th & 15th
September (Murcia stages).

MOUNTAIN BIKING: The
villa is a perfect base for a Mountain Biking holiday. Sierra
Espuna offers some of the best mountain biking in Europe with
a huge network of fire trails and single tracks, leading from
the doorstep of the villa.
Suggested Mountain Biking routes and detailed
OS styled maps will be provided free of charge.
During the year we shall be operating various
Guided Mountain Bike weeks.
We can also supply you for hire the latest Garmin
GPS handlebar mounted computer, which will guide you over a
number of pre programmed mountain bike routes in the Sierra
Espuna National park. (see

We can supply quality Cannondale / Orange Mountain
Bikes for hire (various sizes), for those who don’t want
to bring their own bikes on the airplane. (see

TRIATHLON: The
area is excellent for Cycling with quiet roads, challenging
routes and mild winters making it great for winter / spring
training. In the town of Totana (2km from the villa) is an
excellent 25mt indoor Swimming pool and within 1km of the villa
is a sports centre with a 50mt Olympic pool (open June to September)
and Running track. The villa is located next to a canal and
many local runners use the canal service road for running training.

for those who don’t want to bring their own bikes on
the airplane.
GOLF: The
region of Murcia is becoming the Golf Capital of Spain. There
are numerous Golf Courses within a short drive from the villa,
the nearest being only 15km away. A little further away you
will find the world famous Golf course of La Manga. Currently
there are plans for more Golf courses, so why not have a Golfing
holiday in the region of Murcia and play a different course
each day.
 
TENNIS: Within
1km of the villa is a sports centre which has 3 Tennis Courts.
Just out of Totana there is also a Tennis Club with further
courts available.
WALKING: The
National Park of Sierra Espuna is ideal for a walking holiday,
and the villa would be an ideal base for quiet walks in great
weather. In fact Ramblers Holidays have used the area for walking
holidays.
Suggested walking routes and maps will be provided.
ROCK CLIMBING: Within
the National Park of Sierra Espuna in the Leyva Valley there
is a huge south facing rock face that is bolted and prepared
for excellent rock climbing. The villa would be a great base
for a rock climbing week in Sierra Espuna.
WATER ACTIVITIES & SCUBA
DRIVING:
30 minutes from the villa you will find the coastal town of Puerto de Mazarron,
which is well known for its excellent scuba diving and other water activities
(windsurfing).
We can help you register with scuba diving and
windsurfing courses.
FAMILY HOLIDAYS
The villa would be ideal for family holidays. It sleeps 8 persons and there
is also a cot available for babies. The private swimming pool can be supplied
with a security fence for children.
The Mediterranean beaches of Puerto de Mazarron
are 30mins away. This is a lively seaside resort with excellent
and safe beaches for children (shallow water in Playa Bahia).
There are a number of water activities available (canoes, wind
surfing, scuba diving).

Extra Services Offered:
Airport collection:
We can offer airport transfers to and from the villa to the following airports
(Alicante, Murcia or Almeria). Collection & return transfer times between
9am and 9pm.
Cost: £70 per transfer (MUST BE BOOKED & PAID
IN ADVANCE)
Bike Hire:
If you don’t want to bring your own bike due to excess baggage charges
or fear of airport damage, then you can hire quality Road and MTB bikes from
ourselves;
Cannondale Road Bikes: £10 per
day
Cannondale / Orange MTB Bikes: £15 per day
To guarantee availability you are advised to book and pay for this in advance.
Welcome Food
Hamper:
Forget about arriving to your new holiday home and having to find the nearest
supermarket and fill the fridge. We can provide you with a welcome food hamper
with all the necessities you will need for your first couple of days of holiday;
(bread, milk, cereals, coffee, tea, butter, jam, cheese, salads, vegetables,
fruit, yoghurts, pastas & pizzas, eggs, beer, wine).
Cost: £25 for 2 persons
£40 for 4 persons
£50 for 6 persons
£60 for 8 persons
(MUST BE BOOKED & PAID IN ADVANCE)
Chalet Girl:
Just like skiing holidays…..We can provide you with a Chalet Girl who
will prepare and cook for you in the villa. She will prepare Breakfast (continental
or cooked), afternoon snack (Tea/Coffee & cake) & Evening Meal (3 courses
with wine).
Cost: £20 per person per day (MUST
BE BOOKED & PAID IN ADVANCE)
Cleaning Services:
Should
you not wish to clean and leave the villa in the same conditions
as you found it, we can offer you a cleaning service for after
your departure.
Cost for this service is £50 and must be pre booked
and paid for prior to arrival.
CONDITIONS:
Arrival & Departures:
On your arrival day the villa will be available from
4pm and on your departure day you need to vacate the villa
by 12pm. All arrivals before 9pm will be given the keys and
shown around the villa. Arrivals after 9pm will be able to
collect keys from a pre determined location.
You will find the villa in clean and suitable
conditions for your use, and before your departure you should
leave the villa in the same clean and suitable conditions for
the next tenants use. Cleaning products will be provided.
Bedding and towels:
All beds are provided with duvets, duvet covers, mattress cover,
pillowcase and pillowcase cover. These are to be used by all tenants
renting the house. Single Bed sizes are 90cm x 200cm and can be
converted into large double beds 180cm x 200cm.
Sheet and towel packages are included in the booking price, please specify
the number required when booking.
Each package consists of 1 top sheet, 1 bottom sheet, 1 pillow cover, 1 hand
towel. (Per person). 4 tea towels and a kitchen hand towel
are also provided.
Damages & Breakages:
All damages and breakages must be paid for. You will
need to pay a 150pounds bond with your final payment 8 weeks
before your arrival date. This bond will be returned to you
within 1 week of your departure provided there have been no
damage or breakage and that the villa is left in clean and
suitable conditions. Any replacement costs and cleaning will
be deducted from the bond.
Non Smoking:
We operate a NO SMOKING POLICY. It is not permitted to smoke within any room
of the Villa
Personal Items:
The owners of the villa are not responsible for the loss, damage or breakage
of any items belonging to the tenant
Usage
of Items:
All
items found in the villa are to be used within the property,
and can not be taken out of the premises.
